Rose Cottage & Gardens, Restaurant, Receptions & Bakery
Tucked away amidst large oaks, pines, camellias, azaleas, day lilies, daffodils, roses, wisteria and an endless array of other foliage, the Rose Cottage & Gardens is a charming get away from the busy clamor of daily routine. Built in 1932, the cottage has a unique and relaxing atmosphere that is perfect for intimate lunches as well as business lunches. Wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, women’s or men’s group meetings and business events are all perfect events for the Rose Cottage & Gardens.
When the Rose Cottage restaurant opened 10 years ago, the two enchanting owners and operators developed an outstanding reputation for the restaurant. Beef, chicken, pork, fish dishes with starch, vegetables and several great salads, with homemade rolls and desserts brought in folks from far and wide.
The new owners, Stephanie Morgan and Marlen Kuszmaul want to carry on the strong tradition of great food and cordiality. “We meet so many people that are excited about the re-opening of the restaurant because they loved the great food and ambiance.”
The dark oak floors, the fireplace, the 12 foot solid wood table, the cornice lighting, the terrific view all add to the allure of the cottage. There are several private rooms for dining as well. The large patio is perfect for the outdoor wedding or party. The view from the patio makes you feel like you are far away from everyday hassles. If you listen carefully you can even hear the waterfall on the grounds.
Lunches will be Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday brunch is from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Special events can be planned through the events coordinator, Stephanie Morgan. Stephanie will assist you in your plan for simple and elegant events or intricate deluxe events; just let us know what you envision for your important day.
Stephanie Morgan, Owner and Managaer of Rose Cottage & Gardens, first and foremost is a Mommy. She has a beautiful daughter that not only inspires and amuses her, but brings her joy every minute of every day.
Stephanie has been in the restaurant industry since she was 15 years old. She began her journey at the Piedmont Club in Spartanburg, SC. Following her time there she received her Undergraduate and Master Degrees in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from the University of South Carolina. She has worked for The Country Club (Brookline, MA), Capital City Club (Columbia, SC) and Marriott hotels. Her management experience has been with Augusta Country Club (Augusta, GA), The Carolina Country Club (Spartanburg, SC) and Olive Garden. Stephanie’s passion is for weddings and events and is a Certified Wedding Director.
In addition to the time she spends at the Rose Cottage & Gardens, she enjoys her position as an adjunct teacher at Spartanburg Community College in the Hospitality program.
She is thrilled to be starting Rose Cottage & Gardens with her Mom by her side and continues to find under every difference a similarity.
Marlen Kuszmaul, Owner and Chef of Rose Cottage & Gardens, has been working in the culinary field for 22 years. Her focus at the restaurant will be to prepare the meals from scratch and as healthy as possible by reducing fats and sugars without sacrificing taste. Marlen's interest in baking came from her mother who was an outstanding baker as well as Austrian cook.
When Marlen moved to South Carolina her interest in gourmet cooking was sparked from her cooking experiences in the gourmet group that sprung out of the Spartanburg Newcomers Club.
Marlen is also a Master Gardener and is working on saving the hundreds of Camellias and other beautiful flora from the also beautiful but deadly Wisteria. “The gardens are beautiful and would make lovely backgrounds for wedding and prom pictures. Rose Cottage & Gardens has a wildly beautiful but peaceful sanctuary about it and I would like to preserve it.”
